As of the end of November 2008, we no longer provide quotes on single dedicated-server solutions. Single server scalability has always been very limited in nature, plus single servers have a general inability to be properly tuned as both a high performance web server AND a high performance database server at the same time. We have opted to now provide a load-balanced VPS based solution (two VPS web servers plus a VPS MySQL database server) in the same price ranges that we formerly offered single fully-managed dedicated servers, giving you a clean and scalable solution between our load-balanced shared hosting and load-balanced fully dedicated server offerings.

Fully Managed Load-balanced Dedicated Server or VMWare vSphere Cluster Solutions

Very high-traffic web sites, sites with specific security needs, or medium/large businesses looking for a managed outsourced web solution.

As with complex web projects, the design and implementation of each dedicated load-balanced web server solution is going to be different based on your exact project needs.

Standard load-balanced solutions have a minimum of 2 physical servers for web traffic, and a separate MySQL database server, along with central file storage on one of our Netapp storage systems.

VMware vSphere cluster solutions have a minimum of 3 physical servers being configured as web and database "virtual" servers on top of the physical servers. This provides advanced functionality such as high availability fail-over, no downtime maintenance on physical servers, no downtime physical server upgrades, and advanced resource usage planning and automated power conservation to fit into corporate "green" initiatives. This would be best described as a private or dedicated "cloud" solution.
